Case Presentation

A 23-year-old patient reported with a chief complaint of discoloration and poor esthetics of the upper front tooth, along with concerns regarding smile symmetry. The patient gave a history of trauma to the maxillary anterior region following an accident approximately 7–8 years ago. Clinical examination revealed an Ellis Class II fracture involving tooth #21. The tooth exhibited marked discoloration and did not respond to pulp vitality tests, indicating loss of vitality. Radiographic evaluation showed a well-defined periapical radiolucency associated with tooth #21, suggestive of a chronic periapical abscess. Based on the clinical and radiographic findings, a diagnosis of pulp necrosis with chronic periapical abscess secondary to traumatic injury was established. Considering the compromised pulpal status, discoloration, and the patient's esthetic concerns, a comprehensive treatment plan was formulated. The treatment included Root Canal Treatment (RCT) of tooth #21 followed by post-endodontic rehabilitation with a zirconia crown to restore function, esthetics, and color harmony with the adjacent teeth. The endodontic treatment was completed successfully, and a zirconia crown was fabricated and placed to achieve optimal contour, shade matching, and smile symmetry. The final outcome resulted in elimination of infection, restoration of function, improved esthetics, and enhanced patient satisfaction with the overall appearance of the smile.

**Why Dental Scaling Every 6 Months?**

Dental cleaning and scaling every six months is important to remove plaque, tartar, and stains that regular brushing cannot clean. Over time, these deposits can lead to bad breathe, gum infection, cavity formation, and tooth sensitivity. Routine visits to your dentist help detect small problems early before they need expensive treatments like filling, restoration, or root canal treatment. Scaling also improves gum health, reduces bleeding, and keeps your smile fresh and confident. Even if your teeth look clean, hidden plaque can build up below the gum line. A professional dental cleaning protects both teeth and gums while supporting better overall health. Don’t wait for pain to visit a dentist. Prevention is always easier, faster, and more affordable than treatment. Book your six-month dental check-up and keep your oral health on track. Healthy gums, fresh breath, and cavity-free teeth start with regular scaling and cleaning.

PFM Crown (Porcelain Fused to Metal):

PFM caps are commonly used in a dental clinic after RCT (root canal treatment). They have a metal base with a tooth-colored porcelain layer on top. They are strong and affordable but may show a dark line near the gums over time if hygiene is not maintained properly. Dentists often recommend them for back teeth due to their durability. Zirconia Crown: Zirconia caps are modern, metal-free crowns used after RCT in a dental clinic. They are highly aesthetic, strong, and look like natural teeth. Dentists prefer zirconia for better appearance and long-term hygiene as they do not cause gum discoloration. They are slightly costlier but provide superior strength and a natural smile.

Why Dental Scaling Every 6 Months is Essential for a Healthy Smile

Maintaining good oral hygiene is not just about brushing and flossing at home—it also requires regular visits to a dentist. One of the most important preventive procedures performed at any dental clinic is dental scaling. Dental scaling is a professional cleaning procedure that removes plaque and tartar buildup from your teeth and gums. Even with proper brushing, some areas are difficult to clean, leading to deposits that can only be removed by a dentist. If left untreated, this buildup can cause gum disease, bad breath, and even tooth loss. Many people avoid scaling because they fear pain, but the truth is that modern techniques make the procedure comfortable and quick. At Smile Hub Dental Clinic, we ensure a gentle and painless experience so that patients feel relaxed throughout the process. In fact, most patients feel fresher and cleaner immediately after the procedure. Regular dental scaling every 6 months is highly recommended because it helps prevent serious oral health problems. It keeps your gums healthy, reduces the risk of cavities, and enhances your overall oral hygiene. More importantly, it helps maintain a bright and confident smile. Dental scaling is also crucial for patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Braces and aligners can trap food particles, increasing the chances of plaque buildup. Regular cleaning ensures that your teeth stay healthy while your alignment is being corrected.

Dental caries, commonly known as tooth decay, is a progressive condition caused by bacterial activity that damages the tooth structure. It begins with plaque formation and leads to enamel breakdown if not treated early. Regular visits to a dentist help in early detection and prevention of cavities. Modern treatments are often painless, ensuring patient comfort and reducing fear. Maintaining good oral hygiene, limiting sugary foods, and routine check-ups can significantly lower the risk of dental caries. Early intervention not only preserves the natural tooth but also prevents complications like infection, sensitivity, and tooth loss, promoting long-term oral health and overall well-being.
